Types of data

There are two important ways of categorising data that you need to take into account in thinking about the data you need to help you meet your dissertation aims. These are:

(a)  the distinction between quantitative and qualitative data; and

(b)  the distinction between primary and secondary data.

These distinctions have a significant influence on decisions about the method of analysis and the method of data collection.
