Aspire LLP is a recruitment agency. Recently, the company senior manager, Kay conducted a survey to understand the number of hours students spend daily on their studies after school lesson. After surveying and talking to some local and overseas students, Kay gathered the following information:

Questions 

Using descriptive statistics, summarise the data collected for the two groups of students. Provide appropriate output from SPSS to demonstrate the presentation of the data. What are your preliminary observations?

(a) Construct a 95% confidence interval for the Local studied hours. What are the lower and upper limits?

(b) State the assumption you have made in your construction of the interval. Is the assumption reasonable?

(c) What are the factors that will affect the width of the confidence interval? Comment on these factors.

Conduct an appropriate hypothesis test to determine if the mean of Local is lower than Overseas.

You should include the followings: 
 
(a) State the null and alternative hypotheses and explain how you develop these two hypotheses.
 
(b) Perform an appropriate test of hypothesis at the 5% level of significance. What is the conclusion?
 
What are the assumptions made in performing the hypothesis test in Question 3? Are these assumptions reasonable? Provide explanation to substantiate your view.

When measuring the two groups of study hours, what are other concerns regarding the approach in terms of measuring, sampling and others?
