Need for Technical Processing:
The need for technical processing has been brought about by a number of reasons/factors. They are:
1) Accelerated growth of information resulting in the production of a large number of documents and, consequently, user problems of inadequate time for reading and assimilation.
2) Complexity in subject specialisation coupled with the interdisciplinary nature of information.
3) Demand from readers for better services, etc.
In addition, the pressures of the Five Laws of Library Science, especially the second and third laws have forced librarians to seek new procedures in the arrangement and management of the collection. This has resulted in the development of new tools called Vocabulary Control Devices - such as, Classification Scheme, Thesauri, Catalogue Codes, Subject Headings Lists, etc --for the purpose of classification and indexing of information.
