Serial Numbers : Most of the expensive pieces of equipment have s serial number engraved on the name plate that tells you the operating voltage and current used/power consumption. It is important that the serial number should be recorded so that the equipment can be identified when stock is checked, insured specifically and identified by the supplier/manufacturer in the event of a fault or complaint.
If you keep a card index file of stock, the cards make an ideal place to record the relevant serial numbers. If you record stock location and serial number on a record card, you will have cards similar to the one illustrated in Figure or in India you can keep a separate record for this purpose.
