Properties of Sols
Sol, is a solid liquid dispersion with solid or semi-solid particles dispersed in a continuous liquid phase. For e.g. starch in cold water. Sols exhibit characteristic optical properties. They may have an opaque or clear appearance to the naked eye and when viewed under a microscope, but the dispersed particles are sufficiently large to scatter and polarize the incident light to some extent. This is known as the Tyndall effect.
