Apprenticeship: a major part of training time is spent on the on the job productive work. Each apprentice is given a programme of assignments according to a predetermined schedule which provides for efficient training trade skills. This method is appropriate for training in crafts trades and technical areas especially when proficiency in job is the result of a relatively long training or apprenticeship period e.g. job of craftsman a mechanist a print a tool maker a pattern designer a mechanic etc.

Merits:

1 this type of training brings out a skilled work force.

2 training gives immediate returns.

3 it provides for an efficient workmanship.

4 lower production costs and reduced turnover make this training less expensive.

5 employees develop loyalty towards the job and there by the growth prospects are high.
