What is Microtubules? Microtubules are the largest intracellular fibers, with a diameter of about 25 nm (2.5 x 10-8 meters). They consist of hollow fibers composed of a protein called tubulin. Specialized microtubules, called spindle fibers, separate the chromosomes in cell division.
