Q. Show the Functions of diaphragm walls?

The functions of diaphragm walls are as follows:

(i)  It is designed to maintain soils during the construction of underground structures.

(ii) It assists to control the movement of ground at the time of construction.

(iii)It is intended to take up high vertical loads from aboveground structures at the time of construction (for example top-down approach). Additionally during the servicing of completed structures, diaphragm walls, internal piles and basement raft perform together as a single unit to perform as piled raft.
