Explain prevention of endocarditis

Many physicians believe that antimicrobial prophylaxis before process that may cause transient bacteremia can stop endocarditis and prosthetic joint infection in patients at enhanced risk for these disorders. The effectiveness of this common practice has never been established by controlled trials in humans. The drugs and dosages in the table are based on those recommended by the American Heart Association for prevention of endocarditis.
