An enterprise is a purposeful system that is a system created to accomplish a mission or objective. The goal of the mission is usually embodied in a "mission statement." An enterprise may consist of one or more subsystems. It has attributes of a thermodynamic system as well as those of a biological system - e.g. purpose, entropy, requisite variety, viability, homoeostasis, adaptation, equifinality, etc.
