Differences between epoxy grout, cement grout and cement mortar?
Epoxy grout comprises epoxy resin, epoxy hardener and aggregates/sand.As a matter of fact, there are various types of resin used in construction industry such as epoxy, polyester, polyurethane etc. Though epoxy grout appears to imply presence of cement material by its name, it doesn't contain any cement at all. Instead epoxy hardener serves to initiate the hardening process of epoxy grout. It is normally used for repairing hairline cracks and cavities in concrete structures and may be adopted as bonding agent or primer.
Cement grout is formed by mixing cement powder with water in that the ratio of cement of water is more or less similar to that of concrete. Due to relatively high water content, mixing of cement with water creates a fluid suspension that can be poured under base plates or into holes. Hardening and setting are the significant processes that affect the performance of cement grout. Furthermore presence of excessive voids would also affect the stiffness, strength and permeability of grout. It is versatile in application of filling voids and gaps in structures.
Cement mortar is generally a mixture ofsand, cement and water (typical proportion by weight is 1:0.4:3). It is proposed that cement mortar is constructed by placing and packing instead of by pouring. They are employed as bedding for concrete kerbs in roadwork. They areoccasionally placed under base plates where a substantial proportion of load is designed to be transferred by bedding to other members.
