Whenever possible back up what you say by citing direct evidence from the magazines. That is, select specific examples from the magazines that illustrate or support your general points. The better paper will also go beyond merely describing a few topics and issues to speculating about why certain similarities and/or differences exist and suggesting how they may reflect some of the underlying cultural assumptions and beliefs of each period.

Your paper must be four to five double-spaced typed pages in length, that is, at least 1000 words in all. If you do not type, arrange for someone to type it for you from your manuscript.

This assignment will be graded for style as well as content. Be sure to proofread for errors in spelling, capitalization, punctuation, and other aspects of grammar. A good rule of thumb is to read your draft aloud to someone else to identify any sentences that are awkwardly worded or poorly constructed.

Paper Guidelines:

1) Staple your paper. It should not be paper-clipped nor placed in a folder or plastic binder.

2) Provide a title page with the full dates for both issues of Time that you examined. However, do not provide footnotes or a bibliography.

3) Underline (or place in italics) the titles of all books, newspapers, and magazines.

4) Number your pages.

5) Leave margins of one inch at the top, bottom, and sides of your pages.
