Provide a response to this discussion post and ask probing follow-up questions: Some people equate position and importance. People with the need to self-promote are not able to be a servant leader. To climb corporate ladders, some people choose to leave a wake of damaged relationships in their need of fulfillment relying on the recognition of others. In the New Testament, John writes about those that look to others for approval instead of looking to God for the glory He bestows (New International Bible, 1978/2011). Is it possible to have a life truly devoted to Jesus but seek the approval of man and potential rewards provided through career advancement? Self-focus and self-promotion are the antithesis of servant leadership. Another inhibitor to servant leadership exists that does not connect with self-promotion. The impostor syndrome has the capability to hold back some people possessing the capacity to be impactful servant leaders. In their research, Forson et al. (2025) found that employees with these rooted issues might experience mental health problems, struggle with interactions, avoid challenges for fear of failure, and miss "career promotions or opportunities for growth" (p. 941). Their research found the impostor syndrome affects women more than men. Is it logical that female servant leaders may be more stifled than male?
