Report on Post Executive Strategic New Product Training Course General Outline for execution of Final Exam

You have just completed a rigorous two-week intensive corporate-wide training course for fast-track, mid-level executives. The attendees included executives from business development, manufacturing, finance, research and development, IT and general management. The course was administered by an outside consulting firm, Strategic Insights, Inc out of New York City. You were one of thirty attendees from several countries and industries. You worked in teams of four-five. During the two weeks, you had no immediate ongoing employment responsibilities. You were told to devote your entire two weeks to the training session.

1. As a preface to your report, describe this report's intended audience; that is, your immediate supervisor's responsibilities, the industry you are in, sector or customers/clients served. You will send the report to your immediate superior who you suspect will share its contents with your corporate human resources department and other executives within and possibly outside the firm. (Your current employer and industry, or an envisioned company of possible future employment.)

2. The report should address your understanding of the overall goals, objectives, expected, and realized outcomes of the training (creativeness).

3. You should reflect on the merits of a list of "lessons learned" and how each lesson can, could, should be considered in your area of responsibility, and/or the firm's overall business model (Failure of imagination is a real source of business vulnerability.)

4. You should also reflect on how the training was executed and comment on the pluses, minuses and other considerations you deem important to the attendees and your own firm.

5. Finally, comment on how this training could be upgraded and/or re-designed for future training sessions.

It is a report and should be sent to your instructor as an attachment. If you wish, you can add a cover letter to the report (That may help you realize it is a (mock) report to your immediate supervisor —your call). Consider each of the five points above as 10 points each. The ten (10) words or phrases in italics are also 10 points each. Another 50 points will be assigned equally to the overall organization of the report, grammar and spelling, and articulation of the concepts in a clear, concise and cogent presentation. Exceptional responses will be rewarded.

Beyond the five (5) points noted above, the reader of your report (In the case, the professor of record.) expects you to be able to properly use such words or phrases, or ideas experienced in MBA 540; including, the marketing concept/ market orientation, market needs report, defusing the fuzzy front end, basic data documents, emerging needs/ nascent technologies, Idea Portfolio Management, the R&D/marketing interface in early new product marketing planning, FAB, the challenge of segmentation and targeting marketing and new product pricing. Additional "lessons learned" are welcome.
