One change in technology that I have noticed is the increased usage of on-site testing available. My clinic recently began to use a lung cancer screening test that requires the office to use entirely new technology to us. While this is a big adjustment in both education and workflow, I believe that this change is already benefiting our patients. They have the opportunity to have a screening without paying for an x-ray or other testing. One new piece of technology that I see impacting healthcare is the use e-visits or telehealth visits. In the office that I work at, e-visits are becoming more and more popular. E-visits are a questionnaire that gets sent to the provider to evaluate. Telehealth appointments are video calls or other forms of digital communications between the patient and the provider to provide care (Hailu et al., 2024). The telehealth videos have allowed for patients to be seen when they otherwise might not have been able to, such as when a patient is homebound or out of town. More patients are being treated and patient satisfaction is increasing. I believe that in the future, this technology will be used at a variety of clinics and services.
