Case Scenario: You are the principal of a K-8 school with 800 students in a rural area of Florida. Your community is heavily reliant on agriculture and there is no significant industrial presence locally. After numerous news stories about school violence, parents have started to raise concerns about the possibility of that happening in your school and wonder what you are doing to prevent it. Your community has never experienced something like this previously; however, it has happened in other communities similar to yours. Your superintendent has strongly encouraged you to take a proactive step to address this growing concern in your local community. As a result, you have decided to hold a community forum on school safety. You need to address their initial concern about school safety in a positive, proactive manner, but also be clear about the challenges that exist in school safety, locally and beyond.
