Exploratory Testing and Scripted Testing are two prominent software testing methods. Exploratory Testing is a structured and specified process of software testing where the tester designs and executes the test simultaneously. During this type of testing the tester has freedom and responsibility to utilize their skills and knowledge to optimize the quality of their work. Exploratory testing is well-suited for the agile development approach as it is more adaptable to changes. There are few methods developed for exploratory testing : Charters, Sessions, and Mind Mapping.

In the scripted Testing the testers follow the script and no deviation from the script. In scripted testing the document is well scripted. The testers can write scripts in a number of programming and scripting languages. Scripted testing can be executed and tested manually or automated tools. Scripted testing is used for high- risk financial applications and is best when there is good documentation and planning.
