Q. What is Behaviourally anchored rating scales?
Behaviourally anchored rating scales: some times this is called behavioural expectation scales, are rating scales whose scales points are determined by statements of the effective and range of descriptive statements of the behaviour varying from the least to the most effective.
A rate must indicate which behaviour on each scale best describes an employee performance. Behaviourally anchored rating scales (BARS) have the following features:
a. Area of the performance to be evaluated are identified and defined by the people how will use the scales.
b. The scales are anchored by descriptions of the actual job behaviour that, the supervisor agree, represent specific levels of performance. The result is a set of rating scales in which both dimensions and anchored are precisely defined.
c. All dimensions of the performance to be evaluated are based on observable behaviour and are relevant to the job being evaluated since bars are tailor made for the jobs.
d. Since the rates that will be evaluated who will actually use the scales are actively involved in the development process, they are more likely to be committed to be final product.
