Isomerism

Isomers are compounds with similar (molecular) formula but dissimilar structure. When various isomers present, one might be thermodynamically more stable than the others, or there might be equilibrium among them. So the isolation and study of individual isomers relies on kinetic factors which limit the rate of interconversion. Such type of kinetic inertness is related with only a few ions and most instances of isomerism include complexes of CrIII, CoIII and PtII.
