Uses of Alkyl nitrites
(1) Ethyl nitrite dialates the blood vessels and so accelerates pulse rate and lowers blood pressure thus it is utilized for a medicine for the treatment of asthma and heart diseases (angina pectoris).
(2) Alkyl nitrites' 4% alcoholic solution (termed as sweet spirit of nitre) is utilized in medicine as a diuretic.
(3) Because it is easily hydrolysed to form nitrous acids, it is utilized as a source of nitrous acid in organic synthesis.
