Steric effect - Organic Chemistry

On account of the existence of bulkier groups at the reaction centre, they makes problem as mechanical interference and with the result the attacking reagent finds it hard to reach the reaction site and so slows down the reaction. This method is termed as steric hinderance or steric effect.
