Power Distribution System

The Distribution System contains:

- Sub-transmission system in voltage ranges from 33 kV to 220 kV.

The energy goes from power substations to distribution substations through primary system and then from distribution substations to secondary distribution system for local voltage distribution.

- Primary circuits of feeders, usually operating in the range of 11 kV to 33 kV, supply the load in well defined geographical areas.

- The distribution transformers, commonly installed on poles or near the consumer sites, transform the primary voltage to the secondary voltage, that is usually 240/415 V.

- Secondary circuits at service voltage that carry energy from the distribution transformers along the streets, etc.

  1. The components of Distribution System involved substations, transformers, feeders and metering system, etc.
  2. The O&M objectives and common practices for distribution system focus on improving the reliability and maintenance of plant and equipment, maximizing capacity utilization, increasing operating efficiency, and decreasing operating and maintenance costs.
  3. Grid management, load scheduling and load balancing are significant for the smooth functioning of the power distribution system.
