NATURE OF CARGO INSURANCE POLICY
A marine or cargo insurance policy has an international character and, therefore, a policy taken in one country is acceptable in other country. This is because of the adoption of universally acceptable uniform rules governing insurance in different countries. Marine insurance in India is subject to the following legislations:
i) The Insurance Act, 1938; and Insurance Rules, 1939
ii) Marine Insurance Act, 1963.
In India, the cargo insurance cover is provided only by the Nationalised Insurance Companies. These companies operate within the standard rules and regulations including those which are provided in the "All India Marine Cargo Terrific'.
