Jet propulsion is made possible by action and reaction

Fit a small cardboard stabilizer to the neck of a balloon by means of adhesive tape. Inflate the balloon, and close the mouth with your fingers. When the air contained under pressure in the balloon is permitted to escape, the balloon will be propelled forward by the force of the escaping air. This is the principle used in rockets and jet engines.
