Functions of the Piston

  • To transmit force of explosion to the crankshaft.
  • To form a seal so that high pressure gases from the combustion chamber do not escape into the crankcase so as to cause loss of power or spoiling of engine oil.
  • To serve as a guide and a bearing for small end of the connecting rod.
