Explain Energy Grade Line (EGL)

Graph of the sum of the potential, pressure and kinetic energies along a pipe or open channel. Energies are plotted along the y-axis above a datum or reference in order: Potential, then pressure, then kinetic energies. The difference between the EGL at one point in a system compared to the EGL at a downstream point in the same system is the head loss due to friction Ef.
