Q. Design Transfer Facilities in plant?
Transfer facilities (e.g. pumps, piping, and conveyers) must be arranged so that no leaks can escape the confines of the bund / dike, and so that the equipment will still operate when the bund / dike is full of liquid. Wherever possible, all pipework and conveyors should go over the bund / dike walls, not through them. Any piping penetrating bund / dike walls must be sealed to prevent leakage. All valves, filters, sight gauges, vent pipes and other ancillary equipment should be situated within the bund / dike and arranged so that discharges are contained.
All pipework should be sited above ground and properly supported to make inspection and repair easier. Fill pipes, draw-off pipes and vent pipes should be positioned away from vehicle traffic to avoid collision damage.
