Define Efficiency - terminologies used in chromatography?
Efficiency in chromatography is expressed as number of theoretical plates.
H = L/N
Where, H is height equivalent to theoretical plate
N is number of theoretical plate, and
L is the length of column
Theoretical plate is defined as that length of column in which solute undergoes one complete equilibration between the two phases. Smaller the H, better will be the resolution. More the N, better will be the resolution.
