Complexometric Titrations - Types of titrations

A titration, where an dissolved complex is formed at the equivalence point, is termed as complexometric titration. These types of titrations are superior to precipitation titrations since there is no error because of co-precipitation.

Hg2+ + 2SCN- → Hg (SCN)2

Ag+ + 2CN- → [Ag (CN)2]-

EDTA that is ethylenediamine tetra-acetic acid is a helpful reagent that forms complexes with solids. In the form of disodium salt, it is required to estimate Ca2+ and Mg2+ ions in existence of eriochrome black-T as an indicator.
