A 28 year old quadriplegic man is admitted to the hospital with pneumonia and severe pressure ulcers.  You are the enrolled nurse caring for him and hear him asker the doctor that he not be given antibiotics and that he be allowed to die with dignity.  However, at the insistence of the hospital administration the doctor orders intravenous antibiotics.  When you go to administer the antibiotics the patient says "Please nurse let me die.  I don't want the antibiotics".

Q. If you were the nurse in this scenario what would you do? Support your answer by referring to the relevant conduct statements from the Code of Professional Conduct for Nurses in Australia (ANMC02006) and the relevant value statements from the Code of Ethics for Nurses in Australia (ANMC 2002).
