Q. Can we prevent ketoacidosis?

Normally, while maintaining a good sugar control, there is a very little danger of ketoacidosis. One should test for ketones under the following conditions:

• Blood glucose levels are about 240 mg/100 ml

• fever is present

• nausea and vomiting

• stress, and

• if insulin dosages is being adjusted.
