Briefly explain the responsibilities of the supervisor, Other Management

Assignment Help:

The receiving and shipping department for WXS Inc. has the worst safety record in the company. Falling, lifting, impact injuries are common in this department. As the Director of WXS, Inc., you plan to take an investigation to evaluate why the accident, incident, and injury rates in this department are so high. After all, shipping and receiving employees receive the same safety related orientation, training and mentoring that other employees do.

Your first interview is with the shipping and receiving department's Supervisor. Within 10 minutes the source of the safety problems in this department is obvious to you. The Supervisor's attitude towards safety is unabashedly negative. Several times he has referred to safety as a "necessary evil". Further, he takes no responsibility for his department's poor safety record and does not see why he should be held accountable for it. In his words, "After all, you are the safety director. Safety is your problem".

(i) How far do you agree with the last statement of the supervisor: "After all, you are the safety director. Safety is your problem".

(ii) As a future S&H professional, comment on the statement: "safety is a necessary evil".

(iii) Briefly explain the responsibilities of the Supervisor as far as H & S in an organisation is concerned.
