Paper #1: Process Analysis

There are many times in life when you might need to explain how to do something. In fact, I am confident that you have already done this at least once (probably several hundred times) throughout your lifetime. For this process analysis essay I am asking you to do this: explain a process step by step. You may choose any one of the following topics for your essay:

1) "How to be successful in college" - For this option, you will write an essay on what a college student needs to do in order to be successful in college. Do students need to study? What are the best ways to study? Should a student go to office hours? Should a student talk notes? Host study groups? How should a student go about doing these things? Walk your reader through the best game plan you can come up with for being a successful student, and why this is the best way to approach college. Be sure to use specific examples for support.

2) "How to survive a zombie apocalypse" - For this option, you will write an essay explaining to your readers what they should do to outlast a zombie apocalypse. Where should they find shelter? Food? Weapons? What kind of food and weapons should they look for? What clothing should they wear? Should they search for medical supplies? Walk your reader through your strategy step by step, and explain why this plan is the best for survival. Be sure to use specific examples for support.

3) "How to..." - For this option, you will choose your own topic: how to cook a Thanksgiving dinner, how to change old oil in a car, how to train to run a 5k, how to make a sweater, how to write a story, how to put together a fundraiser, etc. Once you have decided on a topic and have gotten it "okayed" by me, you can start writing. Be sure to walk your reader through your process step by step and to use specific examples for support.
