You can choose from one of the following topics for your final essay:
1. Use Fight Club as your primary source in order to pull quotes (from Fight Club) that you can use to further explore/analyze the previous two projects (Project Web and Project Space). In many ways Fight Club is a novel that ties together the rhetoric's that we have been discussing all semester long. Your goal for this essay, then, will be to examine how the rhetoric of the novel can be used to interpret the assignments you have done/read about in the last two projects (Project Web and Project Space). However, you will have to do more than simply compare the texts/examples. You will have to explain how the various rhetoric's influence social modes of thinking. In other words, aside from just pointing out that the novel and previous projects share similar themes, you have to explain why they share similar themes. For example, why would you talk about advertising in relation to the novel? Why is the novel relevant to the ideas you had to explore in Project Space? And so on.
2. Use the rhetoric of Tyler Durden (you are to use direct quotes from Fight Club for this essay) to examine, and interpret the specifics of your own life. Tyler says a lot of things. Some of these things may resonate with you personally, or you may see specific examples of what he is talking about in our society, especially as it relates to you. Your goal is to use this rhetoric to better understand your place in our society. Also, remember, this book was written in 1996. You have the opportunity to explore Tyler's rhetoric from a perspective of somebody in 2014. However, you will have to do more than simply compare the texts/examples. You must also explain how the various rhetoric's influence social modes of thinking, especially as they pertain to you. Ultimately, you may, or may not agree with his rhetoric. You should be able to come to a conclusion about this by the end of the essay.
