6. A thesis is the central idea of an essay. helps tell readers what they are expecting to read. For example lets say i was to write @ paper about hunger I would include a thesis such as; "world hunger has many causes and effects". The readers will immediately know that they will be reading about world hunger and its downsides
If i was to develop a thesis statement on Marilyn Nelson's poem, "My Grandfather walks in the woods", it would be 'comparison between natures colors and human race traces back to history'. The reason why i thought this would be a decent thesis statement is because as i annotated the poem and broke it down, i personally found that it was comparing nature such as tree branch colors which are black and snow which is white to human race.
7. Despite the poem being about trees and Nature, Marilyn Nelson claims that the answers to racism and ancestry will not be found in the human world but could possibly be found in nature.
8. By using themes of nature and ancestry, Marilyn Nelson suggests that race is a social construct.
9. In the poem "My Grandfather Walks in the Woods" by Marilyn Nelson, the speaker considers issues of family history, nature, and the passage of time as she investigates her grandfather's legacy. She uses the metaphor of a walk in the woods to symbolize the cyclical nature of life and the value of preserving one's ancestry.
10. Marilyn Nelson's "My Grandfather Walks in the Woods", is a poem that explores the idea of lost ancestry and the divide of nature and race by using descriptive language and imagery to lead the reader through the story.
