Select one of the topics below and write a paper that analyzes the practical uses of phonological and phonetic knowledge in real- world situations. Through the review of academic journals, reports, and other media, focus on one area in which phonological principals are being used in a practical way.

In your paper, provide an overview of how your linguistic knowledge of phonological concepts and phonetics are applied in your research topic and address the following:

Discuss how phonology and phonetics are important to the selected topic, and how they can be applied.

Relate specific concepts discussed in the course to the selected topic.

Discuss why applications of linguistic knowledge are important, what they accomplish, and how they benefit society.

Predict possible future applications of concepts discussed in the course.

The paper must be eight to ten pages in length (excluding the title and reference pages) and formatted according to APA style. You

must use at least five scholarly sources (at least two must come from the Ashford University Library) other than the textbook to support your claims. Cite your sources in text and on the reference page. Writing the Final Paper

The Final Paper:

Must be eight to ten double-spaced pages in length (excluding the title and reference pages), and formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.

Must include a title page with the following:

Title of paper

Student's name

Course name and number

Instructor's name

Date submitted

Must begin with an introductory paragraph that has a succinct thesis statement.

Must address the topic of the paper with critical thought.

Must end with a conclusion that reaffirms your thesis.

Must use at least five scholarly resources, including a minimum of two from the Ashford University Library.

Must document all sources in APA style, as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.

Must include a separate reference page, formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.
