You took a critical thinking practice assessment and reflected upon your experience with it through the discussion board. According to Wertenbroch & Nabeth (2000), we learn by experiences that allow us to:

· Absorb (read, hear, feel)

· Do (activity)

· Interact (socialize)

In addition, we also learn by reflecting on such experiences (Dewey, 1933). Reflection is thinking for an extended period by linking recent experiences to earlier ones in order to promote a more complex and interrelated mental schema. The thinking involves looking for commonalities, differences, and interrelations beyond their superficial elements. The goal is to develop higher order thinking skills.

PART 1: First, read the article "Critical Thinking Development: A Stage Theory" (separate attachment) and then post an answer to these questions, in paragraph form.

The article makes claim that "there are predictable stages through which every person who develops as a critical thinker passes." Do you agree or disagree? Why or why not?

The authors of the article make the assumption that "passage from one stage to the next is dependent upon a necessary level of commitment on the part of an individual to develop as a critical thinker, is not automatic, and is unlikely to take place subconsciously."
