Water is flowing from a higher to a lower reservoir through a 24-inch pipe that has a Darcy friction factor of 0.02. The local loss coefficients for the bends, entrances, and exits sum to 3.5. The pipe connecting the two reservoirs is 5000 feet long, and the reservoirs differ in elevation by 100 feet. What is the flow rate in cfs from the higher to the lower pipe? A pump which runs at 80% efficiency, is available to pump water back from the lower to the higher reservoir at a velocity of 1.0 f/s. What power (in Horsepower) must be supplied to this pump?
