A boat on the ocean is 6 miles from the nearest point on a straight line shore, call it P. At a distance of eight miles from P is a restaurant. Alex plans to get to the restaurant by swimming to a point X between the P and the restaurant and walk the remaining part. What is the distance from P to X which will minimize the time Alex will take to arrive at the restaurant if his swim rate is 2 miles per hour and his walk rate is 3 miles per hour? Be sure to justify the minimum claimed.
