What is an op-ed? A piece of writing in a newspaper that expresses an opinion, and that attempts to persuade the reader of the writer's position.

It is an informal presentation, so there is no need to provide visual aids

Select a recent op-ed from a current newspaper or journal. After reading through the op-ed, take notes on the following questions:

Who is the author, beyond their name? How is the author's identity relevant to their topic and/or argument?
What periodical published this op-ed? What might that suggest about the intended audience?
What is the author's argument about their topic?
How does the author use evidence (what strategies)?
How would you characterize the author's tone, diction, and/or style?
What are the op-eds strengths and weaknesses?
Do you agree with the op-ed? Why or why not?
