Before getting into this, go ahead and explore a variety of current hospitality and tourism businesses online (e.g., hotels, theme parks, cruise ships, etc.). Choose one existing hospitality and tourism business to use for this activity. While you have a lot of autonomy when it comes to choosing the business you will focus on, you do need to ensure that your choice meets several requirements: fairly large size, with a full restaurant, offers recreational activities, and has a website and social media accounts (at least one social media platform).
After you've selected your business, you are ready to start this activity! You'll be exploring the many elements of the guest experience and cycle.
Start by looking over your selected business's website and social media, taking note of any information related to the guest experience and guest cycle.
Based on what you've learned in the unit and read about your selected business, you will be putting together a slideshow presentation on the guest experience and cycle as it pertains to your selected business.
Your slideshow will need to cover information gathered both from the unit and your online research. It should include:
- Guest Cycle Stages:
- Identify the stages of the guest experience cycle and the activities associated with each stage. This should be both in general AND specific to your business. List the stages as you learned about them in the unit first and make a note underneath about whether your selected business adheres to these same stages or not.
- Diversity:
- Explore the importance and impact of being sensitive to diversities (i.e., cultural, religious, socio-economic, etc.) as it relates to the guest cycle process.
- Where is your business located? How does its location/price point impact the diverse clientele it serves? If you worked at this company, how would you ensure that you were sensitive to these diversities?
- Working at the business you selected:
- Imagine that you are an employee at this business while answering and discussing the following questions:
- What effect does your communication (body language, foreign phrases, acronyms/jargon, etc.) have on the guest cycle process?
- How would you help to provide a seamless experience for the guests?
- If a guest were to complain, what role would guest recovery play in handling this complaint?
- How would you ensure that guest information is kept confidential and why is this important?
- Guest Feedback:
- Why are guest feedback and follow-up surveys important to the guest cycle process? How does your selected business handle this?
- How and why do guest satisfaction measurements help businesses run smoothly and profitably? Can you determine anything about this specific to your selected business?
Once you have researched, compiled, and included all of the above information in your slideshow, create one additional slide that identifies the name of your selected business, the website, and an image.
Please also list at the end of your presentation any resources and websites that you used in your research.
Make sure to save your presentation in a place on your computer where you can access it later.
