What does freedom mean to you? We are born to become free. Freedom is defined differently, and according to different cultures, freedom to me varies from one culture to another. It also means independence, the ability to speak freely and to act. Freedom can be called a state of mind where you have the right and freedom of doing what you can think of. Freedom means equality where something can hold me back, for me that's freedom.
I'll take you back to when I was in middle school. I just started at this new school. I was hoping to meet new people and make new memories. However, during 8th grade, I was subjected to intense bullying, which made me feel trapped in the situation. I tried not to stand out when the bullying occurred. I have desires to and express myself, but I am afraid that my classmates will mock me. Inside the classroom, I felt as if I were imprisoned. I don't want to draw attention to myself. Inside the classroom, I felt as if I were imprisoned like a glance, the experience of bullying made me realize that I was imprisoned within my universe. I hear people laughing at me, They are surrounded by fellow students who jeer and ridicule them. The scent in the classroom is unpleasant and musty.
The air is dense with the odor of anxiety and perspiration. I'm surrounded by fellow students who jeer and ridicule them. I feel terrified as my heart is pounding in my chest. So in middle school, I tried to change myself in order to fit in, eventually realizing that I was no longer free to express myself or be who I used to be. We are the only ones with the key to our own freedom. When I consider what it means to be free, the first thing that comes to me is the capacity to act in any way that I choose without being constrained in any way.
