Essay Question :

Over the duration of the term, you have heard from three Moms who are also educators, and in Ally's case, a trained counselor who as she indicated, works with clients who have brain injuries or issues related to neurological functions. The message of all three not only concerned the specific needs and multi-level challenges of their children in terms of diagnosis, accommodations, academics etc.., but also sent a clear
message about the importance of SEEING their child. Not the exceptionalities their child has, but the child themselves. As Violet said, when asked by her mom what she would like you to know, she said my name is Violet. So, the essay question comes in three parts:

Question 1: How as an EA working in this system, with all its challenges, will you make sure to always see the child first and why is this so incredibly important?

Question 2: We have talked in depth about the use and the importance of communication binders. We know that some schools use them, and some don't. We know that some schools use a team approach that encourages the EA to work with the parents as part of a team, and in others you will not have contact with the parents at all. Parents commonly emphasize the importance of dialogue between themselves and those working with their children. They also stress the importance of realistic BUT positive dialogue. Why is the way you communicate with the parent SO important? How will you ensure that you always remember that the same as we stress the humanity of the child, recognizing the humanity of the parent is also vital?

Question 3: You have been made the head of a task force that is examining the use of communication binders. As you know there is some discussion about removing them altogether. What five arguments will you present for or against keeping these binders?
