5. The two main political ideologies in the United States are liberalism and conservatism. Choose someone in your family or circle of friends and make an informed judgment whether they are liberal or conservative. Write an essay that justifies why you think they are liberal or conservative. What things do they believe about the role of government in domestic or foreign issues that lines up with that specific ideology?

6. The process by which a bill becomes a law appears confusing to many people. A lot of people have to agree on the bill (including the exact wording) at a lot of different stages in the process. Write an essay describing how a bill becomes a law to someone who doesn't understand it.

7. Not every court case ends up at the US Supreme Court. Why not? What are the criteria used by the justices to decide that a case is interesting enough to hear? If the justices decide to hear a case, what happens between that decision to hear the case and the final judgment of the court? Be sure to use the correct vocabulary.
