Question #1- Explain why workplace diversity is important?
Question #2- What are (2) specific challenges managers may face in managing diversity and inclusion? How would you go about solving these two?
(1) Workplace diversity is important because: Studies have shown that groups of people that are diverse in gender, race, and age perform better, make better decisions, and experience more probability. A diversified workplace brings together ideas and perspectives Igniting innovation and creativity. It is a very important asset since it acknowledges The individual strengths of each employee and the potential they bring. Diversity in the workplace means employing individuals who vary in gender, age, religion, Ethnicity, cultural backgrounds, sexual orientations, and education levels. It will also make a respectful environment, reduce conflict, help business reputations, and avoid legal issues. Diversity is very important to our everyday lives, helping us find opportunities for learning and practicing different skills: Empathy, emotional intelligence, and understanding.
(2) Two specific challenges managers may face when managing diversity and inclusion? (1) may be communication barriers, which i have experienced myself on several jobs. (2) Productivity. If I were experiencing communication barriers when managing employees, I'd try to solve it by making sure I speak clearly, if that doesn't work then I would demonstrate what I want done with a specific task, if it is because of language then I would ask another employee to convey the message which is why it is so important for diversity in the workplace, making sure you hire people from different backgrounds. If I had to solve a Productivity issue in the workplace, I would give constructive criticism letting my employees know how important it is that we finish the task at hand. I haved worked in several warehouses and they are extremely hot in the summer. I have seen people go to lunch and never return so if that were the reason for decreased productivity then I would encourage regular breaks, have water coolers all around, maybe even offer Gatorade. Improve the workplace conditions make sure the environment is safe and healthy for everyone. When working in these warehouses i have experienced going to lunch with nowhere to sit, bathrooms were filthy because everyone wants to cut corners so there is no one for housekeeping, thirty minutes to eat lunch when working ten hour shifts. In my opinion that is not possible unless you bring lunch from home. I would even offer my employees incentives to increase productivity. All of the things I mentioned to solve productivity would probably increase profits as well.
