Filburn , a farm owner in Ohio, raised winter wheat primarily to feed his livestock and poultry and to make flour for home use. Under the provisions of the Agricultural Adjustment Act, Filburn was given notice of a wheat acreage and yield allotment. Filburn , however, sowed more acreage and harvested more wheat than he was allowed. As a result, the government fined him $117.11. Filburn sued the government to prevent it from collecting the fine.
He argued that the production and consumption of wheat on his own land for his own purposes are outside the reach of Congress because, at most, this activity had an indirect effect upon interstate commerce. Was Filburn correct? Explain.
