Assignment - Illustrative Essay

For this assignment you are going to write a basic essay in which you give examples and evidence to support your main idea (your thesis). Be sure to follow the steps and format that we have discussed in class - that is the standard essay format that was outlined on the board.

Now remember, you can approach an Illustrative Essay in one of two ways. You can either present a series of examples to make your point or you can present one long extended example (i.e. a narrative).

Don't forget, if you choose to write a standard essay you should be following the format discussed in class. If you choose to write the extended narrative example, follow the format you will be basically telling a story. (The narrative format is not recommended for this assignment.)

Please choose from the following topics. Remember that an illustrative essay categorizes and gives specific details and examples to make the concepts more clearly understood to the reader.

Your topic choices are:

1. It's good to be king

2. The effects of cell phones on individuals and society

3. Violence breeds violence

4. The impact of Facebook on relationships

5. Bullying in schools

6. An idea of your own, pre-approved by the instructor.
