The S.M.A.R.T. Program stands for Surveillance Mapping and Reporting Technology. The Irondequoit Police Department began this program in 2019 in order to map the privately-owned camera systems such as Ring and Nest within the Town of Irondequoit. These systems have become more popular, creating valuable information being captured on video, which can help us solve crimes. The goal is to promote collaboration between the Irondequoit Police Department and the community we serve. A form has been created, which will provide the resident's or business owners contact information: name, number, address, location of their camera(s), camera make/model, length of time the video footage is saved for, the direction the camera faces, and whether the camera captures the street in front of the location. The form is also posted on the Town of Irondequoit Page for residents to access. In addition, hard copy forms will be left in roll call for officers to provide to residents or fill out while on calls or instances where they notice a camera. After completing said form, officers will be asked to leave it in a tray in CIU. This program has now expanded over the years to include layers of the Map to identify.
