Jim, the student nurse, takes her vital signs upon return from the postanesthesia unit: temperature 99.8° F orally, pulse 92 beats/min, respirations 24 breaths/min, blood pressure is 110/58 mm Hg, and pulse oximetry at 90% on room air. Jugular veins are distended with peripheral edema over bilateral lower extremities from the knee to the feet. He asks her to rate her pain, and she states that it is a 6 on a scale of 1 to 10.
