Question

Ryan was a three-year-old boy. He suffered a traumatic brain injury when an adult-sized soccer goal fell over on top of him, hitting him on the head. After surgery he was semi-comatose but once able to go to rehabilitation in the hospital, he stayed there about a month before being discharged with being able to follow simple commands and relearn how to speak, walk, eat, and drink while still having the g-tube. The video ended with Ryan, at the age of five, making a full recovery. The three functional deficits that Ryan has been faced with due to his traumatic brain injury were the ability to perform physical tasks such as playing and eating, as well as cognitive functions, such as being able to produce and understand language. The injury impacted Ryan's many daily activities, but three daily activities that have been impacted are his ability to eat, drink, and play. Ryan had a g-tube in place as he relearned how to eat and drink but once able to the g-tube was removed. He could not play relearn how to walk an There are many areas in which the clinician will want to treat/work with Ryan.
